Nothing can compare to an afternoon floating on the Elk River. The Elk River is rated a class I-II, making it ideal for beginners or just a relaxing, laid back day for the experienced. The Elk River offers beautiful scenery with many gravel bar "rest stops" and swimming holes to enjoy a cooling dip. The many natural springs along the Elk River, Indian Creek and Big Sugar keep the water cool but comfortable and running year round for canoeing, rafting, kayaking and tubing fun. With clean, cool, clear water, no one can resist getting their feet wet!

We can handle large groups!

All our float trips start upriver so that you float right back into Shady Beach - no waiting for a ride back to the campground!

Rental Canoes, Rafts & Kayaks

Shady Beach Campground offers canoes, kayaks and 6 man rafts to accommodate everyone's needs.

Canoes

We offer plastic and aluminum canoes. Each is designed for 2 people. A third person can ride in the middle on the floor. We suggest two people per canoe.

Rafts

Our new 4-man rafts are ideal for small families or groups. We suggest 1-4 adults with coolers and accessories per raft for the most comfortable and enjoyable float experience.

Our 6-man rafts are ideal for groups and families. We up to 5 adults with coolers and accessories per raft for the most comfortable and enjoyable float experience.

Kayaks

Our kayaks are top mount with a place for a medium size cooler and offer a comfortable and easy maneuverability.

Canoe, Raft & Kayak Reservations

Reservations are required on all canoes and kayaks at $10.00 per boat, $35.00 per 4-main raft and $50.00 per 6-man raft to guarantee them. Deposits must be received within 10 days after phone reservation is made.

No refund of deposit unless we have at least a 3 day notice. There will be a 10% cancellation fee. We float rain or shine unless Shady Beach cancels. If that happens, then you can reschedule your float trip within 1 year of cancellation.

FLOAT TRIP ROUTE	Two People
Pineville to Shady Beach (8 miles, 4-6 hours) Most popular float with many gravel bars and swimming holes. Nice, easy float with time to relax and enjoy a day on the Elk River and still be back in time for dinner!	$32.00
Mayes Landing to Shady Beach (5 miles, 2-4 hours) Floating on the Elk River. Ideal for people who want to float later in the day or just 1/2 day float.	$32.00
Deep Ford to Shady Beach * (12 miles, up to 8 hours) Starts the first 4 miles on the Big Sugar and end up on Elk River. It has different scenery with higher banks, less gravel bars and quicker corners. Ideal for the early risers who want a full day on the river.	$42.00
